Facility design

The model of care will inform the design and build at jacks place Foundation.

Our research evidence and our extensive discussions with health professionals and individuals with lived experience is identifying the appropriate care models, and this is informing the brief for design and ultimately will transform into the build of the facility.

Transforming Crisis Care Through Evidence and Innovation.

Located amongst trees

Amongst trees – nature is so important to our mental health. Each room will have a flow to an outdoor area because it is important all guests can move easily from inside to out, and touch the grass and plants, feel the sun and/or the rain in their recovery. Each room will be fully enclosed and fixture-free to ensure safety to our guest and to comply with recognised best practice safety and design.

Professional care

Each room will have its own speakers so that music of choice can be provided for the guests based on their preference avoiding or reducing access to that which may feed their suicide ideations.

Staffing will be designed to optimise the impact of the model of care.

Professional capability and skill mix will mean we enable clinicians and peer workers to bring their practical experience, professional assessment and skills to deliver individualised support to each person.

Our workforce

Key capabilities will be deployed through:

  • Specialist Mental Health Nurses and Nurse Practitioners
  • Specifically trained lived experience
  • Peer Workers
  • Consultant Psychiatrists
  • Consultant Psychologists
  • Specialist Mental Health
  • Social Workers

This workforce will be assisted by lived experience volunteers, supporting and engaging guest in activities to distract them from their thoughts, whilst building connection and reducing the sense of being alone.

Treating Psychiatrists and other health professionals will be welcomed and encouraged to visit their existing patients while in the care of jacks place.

Together, we can save lives

With the right support, this vision can become a reality, offering a lifeline to those who need it most and filling a critical gap in Australia’s mental health landscape. We invite you to join us in making this life saving initiative possible.
